staff You are recommending that I follow a nazi blog I blocked last night. Your site promotes anti-semitism to Jews. Your site shoves Nazi Swastikas in the faces of Jews. It’s bad enough that the Nazi blogs seem to be sprouting up like weeds on a site that claims to have an anti-hate policy, but to actively promote them to people who have taken the steps of blocking these blogs is beyond the pale. Clean this place up. It’s turning into Stormfront.

I encourage everyone who sees this post, Jewish or otherwise, to reblog it. Tumblr has been ignoring the growth of Nazism on this site for too long. It needs to end.

This is how the Archive Team is going to save Tumblr (and you can help us)

1. There is a website in trouble like Tumblr
2. We have hundreds of warriors machines, which run a special operating system made for archiving the web.
3. There is a tracker which is a central ToDo list worked on by each warrior. The warriors keep the files for archiving only for a moment before they hand them to the staging servers.
4. The staging server collect and process the data into huge .warc files which are accepted by archive.org
   
5. archive.org process and indexed our .warc files and makes them available in the wayback machine. It takes care of the long term hosting. Each TB stored costs somewhere between 1500$ and 2000$ in the long run. 

Our minimum how much we will save is above 60 TBs. An estimate of the total size of the NSFW part of tumblr alone is 10-20 times that. Even when we will archive only a fraction it is going to be expensive.  When you donate to archive.org today. Your donation will be matched.

You can help the Archive Team (which is not related to the nice guys at archive.org) by filling out this https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdoYnlweKF-5iQ2G0FB9s7pDV_Le61dDU-gMMDsc8CQ50YBjQ/viewform?hl=en form  which is used to built the ToDo list stored by the tracker. We are looking for endangered blogs like NSFW blogs for example. If you know any that you would be sad be to loose please add them to the list. That way they will be saved.

The Tennessee Supreme Court ruled former sex slave Cyntoia Brown MUST serve 51 years in prison before she is eligible for parole.

According to them:

“In today’s unanimous decision, the Tennessee Supreme Court explained that, under state law, a life sentence is a determinate sentence of 60 years,” the court wrote. “However, the sixty-year sentence can be reduced by up to 15 percent, or 9 years, by earning various sentence credits (good behavior. & getting involved in prison based education programs while incarcerated) Therefore, the Supreme Court concluded that a defendant serving a life sentence for a first-degree murder committed on or after July 1, 1995, may be eligible for release after serving at least 51 years of the sentence.“

For those of you who haven’t yet caught up to this story:

Cyntoia Brown was a 16 yr old girl, who at the time of the incident was living in a room at a Nashville InTown Suites with Allen (the man who propositioned her for sex) because her pimp and boyfriend Garion McGlothen, nick-named “Kut Throat,” insisted that she needed to earn money.

Kut Throat abused her physically and sexually throughout the approximately three week period in which she lived with him.

After Allen took her to his house, he showed Cyntoia multiple guns, including shotguns and rifles. Later in bed, as she described in court, he grabbed her violently by the genitals, his demeanor became threatening and, fearing for her life, she took a gun out of her purse and shot him.

tomorrow, Dec. 10, is the last day to submit a comment about a rule change the trump administration is trying to put out. (look for the link in the replies since tumblr wont let you search anything with outside links)

the rule change is about who gains citizenship. they want to make it so that if you’re an immigrant, and you have ever had any sort of government benefits, you would become ineligible for citizenship. this is coming at a time where the administration has made multiple moves to end birthright citizenship, not to mention all the things going on with ICE and undocumented immigrants.

and by government benefits i literally mean ANY government benefits. your kid qualifies for free/reduced lunch in public school? THAT COUNTS. medicaid? THAT COUNTS. food stamps? THAT COUNTS. it’s a terrifying and bullshit rule change that is nothing but malice, which is honestly their whole agenda. so at the very LEAST submit a personalized comment.

WE NEED TO KEEP TALKING ABOUT ARTICLE 13

Here’s a quick rundown.

• Article 13 is still in its final stages of voting. The problem is not that people don’t want to protect copyright, it’s that the LANGUAGE of the LAW is TOO VAGUE and OPEN TO ABUSE. IT COULD PASS THIS YEAR.
• This law WILL impact EVERYBODY. Media platforms like YouTube will not bother to have different policies for the EU and for everybody else, they’ll just apply strict EU laws to EVERYONE.
• MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WILL LOSE THEIR JOBS. You can yammer on all day about how people shouldn’t be building a career on an industry like YouTube or Instagram anyway, but the world changes, and there is actually not much different between YouTube content creators and traditional media like movies and TV. Youtubers, Instagram models, hell, even kids who use apps like TikTok are either directly or indirectly CREATING JOBS, and you CANNOT deny that. ALL OF THESE JOBS WILL BE PUT IN JEOPARDY IF ARTICLE 13 IS PUT INTO PLAY. THE ONLY CONTENT CREATORS THAT WILL BE ABLE TO THRIVE POST ARTICLE 13 IS BIG MEDIA COMPANIES.
• THIS IS NOT FEARMONGERING. Is it scary, even anxiety-inducing that Article 13 could take away the only safe space that some people have—the Internet? YES. But we CANNOT close our eyes and scroll past all the article 13 posts because they make us anxious, or because they make us sad. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Reblog/make posts. Spread awareness. Tell your friends. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, IF YOU LIVE IN THE EU, TALK TO YOUR REPS. IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO SAVE OUR INTERNET.

We’re currently going through a scare on Tumblr where your blog could get taken down at any time for any unclear reason, because they’re cracking down on child porn. That is good, but many people with perfectly appropriate blogs are having them taken down, too. The thing is, right now, you can still get your blog back without hassle if it is taken down by mistake. Imagine if your blog was taken down simply for making or reblogging a meme, gif of your favorite TV show, or simply producing art that isn’t 100% original, and Tumblr COULD NOT RESTORE IT BECAUSE THEY WOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR COPYRIGHT VIOLATIONS BY ARTICLE 13. That could be our reality. Do NOT turn a blind eye to this.

tl;dr Article 13 will 100% change the internet as we know it for the worse, and you aren’t safe even outside of the EU. SPREAD THE WORD. EU RESIDENTS CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES.
